Best RC Monster Truck UK 2026 — From 1:20 Minis to 1:8 Giants

Four RC monster trucks: Blackzon Slyder, Rlaarlo Omni-Terminator, Maverick Quantum2 MT Flux and Kyosho USA-1

The best RC monster truck for most people is the Rlaarlo Omni-Terminator Alloy: a brushless 1:10 truck with a centre differential and a big battery in the box, for about £200. On a tighter budget the ZD Racing Thunder 9106 gets you 1:10 brushless power for around £110, and at the top the Kyosho USA-1 VE is the one to have.

A monster truck is the most forgiving kind of RC car, which is why so many people start with one. The seven below run from smallest to largest. Size is the main decision, so RC car scales explained is worth reading first, and the hidden costs of RC cars covers batteries and spares.

Which size of monster truck?
Scale is the fraction of a full-size truck: the smaller the second number, the bigger the model.
1:20 and 1:16
Indoors and gardens
Light, slow enough for children, and happy on a lawn or patio.
1:10
Parks and fields
The all-round size. Big enough for rough grass and jumps, small enough for a car boot.
1:8
Open land
Heavy, fast and very capable. Needs space, bigger batteries and a careful driver.

1. Blackzon Spryte MT: best mini monster truck

Blackzon Spryte MT

Blackzon Spryte Mt 1/20 4wd Electric Monster Truck – Blue

1:20 scale, 4WD, steering-wheel controller with speed switch, independent suspension

£39.99

View product

The smallest truck here and the easiest to live with. The Spryte is a 1:20 4WD monster truck with independent double-wishbone suspension and geared differentials, and a speed switch on the controller keeps it manageable for small hands.

Best for: a first monster truck for a young child. Our best RC car for kids guide has more by age. Watch out for: its size. It is an indoor and patio truck, not a field basher.

2. Blackzon Slyder MT: best under £100

Blackzon Slyder MT

Blackzon Slyder Mt 1/16 4wd Electric Monster Truck – Blue

1:16 scale, brushed, 4WD shaft drive, waterproof electronics, 7.4V Li-ion battery and USB charger

£64.99

View product

A step up in size and ability. The Slyder has 4WD shaft drive, independent suspension and waterproof electronics, and comes ready to run with a 7.4V Li-ion battery and USB charger. It is the cheapest truck here that is happy on a lawn.

Best for: beginners and children who want a truck for the garden. Watch out for: the brushed motor. It is lively, not fast, which is exactly right for a first truck.

3. ZD Racing Thunder 9106: best value 1:10

ZD Racing Thunder 9106

ZD Racing Thunder 9106 1/10 2.4G 4WD Brushless RC Electric Monster Truck RTR

1:10 scale, brushless, 60A waterproof ESC, metal chassis, listed at 70 km/h, LiPo and charger included

£111.99

View product

A full 1:10 brushless monster truck for not much more than a hundred pounds. The Thunder has a waterproof 60A speed controller, a metal chassis with CNC-machined parts and a listed 70 km/h, and the 7.4V LiPo and charger are included.

Best for: anyone who wants proper size and speed on a tight budget. Watch out for: the pace. 70 km/h in a tall truck takes some learning, so ease into the throttle.

4. Rlaarlo Omni-Terminator Alloy: best overall

Rlaarlo Omni-Terminator Alloy

Rlaarlo Omni-Terminator Alloy MINI 1:10 Scale Brushless Monster Truck, RZ001G-A

1:10 scale, brushless, centre differential, gyro, 5000mAh battery included

£199.99

View product

Our best-selling monster truck, and the one we recommend first. The centre differential and steel spiral-cut gears put the power down cleanly, the gyro keeps it straight when you get greedy with the throttle, and the 5000mAh battery in the box means long runs.

Best for: parks, fields and BMX tracks, for beginners and experienced bashers alike. Watch out for: rolling it in fast corners, which every monster truck does. The bodyshell takes the knocks.

5. Maverick Quantum2 MT Flux: best big-brand 1:10

Maverick Quantum2 MT Flux

Maverick Rc Quantum2 Mt Flux 1/10th Monster Truck – Green

1:10 scale, brushless 3500KV motor, 3S-capable speed controller, ready to run

£249.99

View product

Maverick is HPI’s sister brand, and the Quantum2 MT Flux is its current 1:10 brushless truck, with a 3500KV motor and a speed controller that will take 3S. The appeal is the name behind it: a long-established brand with a deep spares catalogue.

Best for: buyers who want a mainstream brand and easy parts supply. Watch out for: what is in the box. Check the listing for the battery and charger before you order.

6. Kyosho USA-1 VE: best premium monster truck

Kyosho USA-1 VE

Kyosho Usa-1 Ve 1:8 4wd Readyset Ep Monster Truck (Torx8-Brainz8 Esc)

1:8 scale, 4WD, brushless motor and waterproof ESC fitted, licensed USA-1 body, five-link suspension

£582.99

View product

USA-1 is one of the famous names of full-size monster truck racing, and Kyosho’s 1:8 version does it justice: a licensed body with a separately moulded grille, lights and supercharger, over a 4WD chassis with five-link suspension. Brushless motor and waterproof speed controller come fitted.

Best for: enthusiasts who want a truck that looks like the real thing and drives like a Kyosho. Watch out for: the price of the extras. A 1:8 truck needs large batteries and a capable charger.

7. HPI Savage XL 5.9: best nitro monster truck

HPI Savage XL 5.9

Hpi Racing Savage Xl 5.9 GTXL-6 – Blue

1:8 scale, 5.9cc nitro engine, extended TVP chassis, long wheelbase

£599.99

View product

The Savage is the nitro monster truck, and has been for more than twenty years. The XL 5.9 has a 5.9cc engine, an extended twin-plate chassis and a long, wide stance that keeps it stable on rough ground. Nothing electric sounds or smells like it.

Best for: drivers who want an engine. Read nitro vs electric first if you have not run one. Watch out for: the commitment. Nitro needs fuel, a glow starter, running in and tuning, and somewhere you can make noise.

What to look for in a monster truck

Scale first. Decide where it will be driven. A 1:16 truck is lost in a rough field and a 1:8 truck is wasted in a small garden.

Brushed or brushless. Brushed is cheaper and calmer, which suits children and first trucks. Brushless is faster and more efficient, and is what most people end up wanting.

Four-wheel drive. Every truck here is 4WD. It pulls through long grass and out of trouble, and makes wheelies and backflips easier to control.

Electric or nitro. Electric is quiet, clean and simple. Nitro is noisy, involving and needs more care. Our guide to nitro vs electric explains the trade-off.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best RC monster truck in the UK?
For most people, the Rlaarlo Omni-Terminator Alloy. It is brushless, 1:10 scale, well equipped and comes with a 5000mAh battery. For a first truck for a child, look at the Blackzon Slyder instead.
What is the best RC monster truck for a beginner?
A 1:16 brushed truck such as the Blackzon Slyder for children, or a 1:10 brushless truck with a gyro such as the Omni-Terminator for teenagers and adults.
Are RC monster trucks waterproof?
Some have waterproof electronics, and we say so in the notes above where the listing does. That covers wet grass and puddles, not submersion, and bearings still need drying and oiling afterwards.
How fast do RC monster trucks go?
It varies with size and power. The ZD Racing Thunder 9106 is listed at 70 km/h, and 1:8 trucks go faster still. Our fast RC cars guide lists the quickest.
