Why choose Tamiya?
Tamiya do things the long way round. Nearly everything here arrives as a kit: a box of sprues, a manual and a body shell waiting to be trimmed and painted. You build the chassis, fit your own radio gear and battery, then take it out. That is the appeal — the car you drive is one you put together yourself.
The range on this page covers the classic 1/10 touring and rally chassis, the TT-02 and DT-03 platforms that most people start on, the Lunch Box and Midnight Pumpkin wheelie trucks, scale 1/14 tractor units, military tanks and the CC-02 trail crawlers. Most kits include a motor and an electronic speed controller; you supply the transmitter, receiver, servo, battery, charger and paint.

Tamiya FAQs
Helpful answers before you choose your next model or part.
Do Tamiya kits come ready to drive?
No. A Tamiya kit is a build. You assemble the chassis from the manual, then add a transmitter and receiver, a servo, a battery and charger, and paint for the body. Most kits do include the motor and an electronic speed controller, so those are two things you do not need to buy.
Which Tamiya kit is best for a first build?
The TT-02 chassis is the usual recommendation: it is forgiving to assemble, parts are easy to come by, and it takes a huge range of body shells. The DT-03 buggy and the Lunch Box are the other two common starting points.
What do I need to buy alongside the kit?
A 2-channel transmitter and receiver, a steering servo, a battery and charger, and polycarbonate paint for the body. Basic hand tools, a hobby knife and side cutters cover the assembly itself.
What scale are Tamiya RC kits?
Most of the car range is 1/10. The tractor units and some military vehicles are 1/14 or 1/16, and there are smaller and larger models either side. The scale is listed on each product page.
How long does a Tamiya kit take to build?
An evening or two for a simple chassis, longer for a tank or a scale truck. The manuals are famously clear and step-by-step, which is a large part of why Tamiya kits are recommended to newcomers.
