RC crawlers are slow-speed, high-articulation 4WD models built for technical terrain — rocks, logs, ruts, gradients and stream crossings. Unlike race-focused RC cars, crawlers run low gearing, soft high-grip tyres, long-travel suspension and waterproofed electronics so they can inch over obstacles at walking pace.Common scales are 1:24 (micro indoor courses), 1:18 (the popular FMS / SCX24 size), 1:10 (the dominant scale: RGT Pioneer, Axial SCX10, Element Enduro) and 1:8 for serious scale rigs. Power is almost always electric: brushed motors are the norm because torque, not speed, is what crawls best.Beginners can pick up a complete 1:24 RTR from £60–£90; the popular 1:10 RTR sits at £150–£280; competition-spec 1:10 builds and 1:8 rigs run £350–£800. Pair your crawler with high-torque RC servos and high-capacity LiPo batteries for longer trail sessions.

⌄Frequently Asked Questions
Crawlers run on low gearing and soft, high-grip tyres so they can climb obstacles at walking pace. Where a buggy is built for speed and jumps, a crawler is built for torque, articulation and scale realism — you drive it the way you'd drive a 4x4 off-road.
1:10 scale crawlers (like RGT Pioneer, Axial SCX10) are the most popular and have the biggest range of aftermarket parts. 1:24 micro crawlers are great for indoor courses and tighter gardens. 1:8 crawlers are for enthusiasts who want serious torque and scale detail.
Yes — most RTR crawlers now ship with waterproof ESCs and receivers because crawling routinely involves stream crossings, wet grass and snow. Check the product spec: if it doesn't say "waterproof" or "sealed", plan to seal it yourself or keep it dry.
Micro 1:24 crawlers work perfectly indoors over cushions, books and stacked boxes. Larger 1:10 crawlers are better outside — but many UK RC clubs run indoor crawler courses over winter.
Not usually. Crawlers benefit far more from a high-torque, low-turn brushed motor than a fast brushless one. Brushless sensored crawler motors do exist for competition comp-crawlers, but they're a specialist upgrade — a good brushed setup is fine for 95% of drivers.
