SBK means you choose the power and electronics

As a true Self Build Kit, the Savage XL Nitro SBK is supplied without an engine or electronics, letting you pick the exact setup you want. HPI suggests a 3.5–5.9 rear-exhaust big-block nitro engine, a minimum 2-channel radio with failsafe, plus standard-size steering and throttle servos (with sensible torque ratings for a truck of this size).

New upgrades baked into the SBK spec

HPI says the SBK keeps the core Savage XL DNA, but adds performance-focused updates aimed at durability and drivetrain efficiency. Highlights include new steel 2nd and 3rd gears for the proven 3-speed transmission, plus precision 29/9T differential gears and all-hex hardware throughout.

Size and stance

This is a big truck in every dimension — HPI lists it at 585mm long, 470mm wide, 255mm high, with a 395mm wheelbase. If you’ve only run 1/10 scale trucks before, the XL footprint is a serious step up.

What you’ll need to finish the build

• Nitro engine (HPI suggests rear-exhaust big-block in the 3.5–5.9 range)
• Radio system (minimum 2-channel) with voltage & signal failsafe
• Steering servo + throttle/brake servo (standard-size)
• Receiver battery (6V hump pack style) + suitable charger
• Nitro fuel, glow igniter, starter gear, and basic tools for assembly/tuning
