West Cornwall Radio Controlled Car Club
Welcome to West Cornwall Radio Controlled Car Club The aim of the club is to provide a friendly and safe place to compete with other RC car enthusiasts in a controlled racing environment. The club is affiliated to BRCA (British Radio Car Association) and is dedicated to race 1/10th and 1/12th electric model racing cars. Club race meetings are held every Wednesday evening from 6.30 pm to 9:30 pm throughout the summer months (May to the end of August) at our purpose built grass track on Barripper cricket field (TR14 0PN) for 1/10 2wd buggies/4wd buggies/stadium truck. Throughout the winter months (September to April) we race indoors on carpet at Redruth School, Tolgus Vean, Redruth, TR15 1TA for GT12 cars, mini and other on road classes (see document BRCA GT12 Technical Rules v4.1 for construction rules). During each meeting racers take part in 3 qualifying heats and a final each lasting for 5 minutes. Each driver is matched with drivers of similar ability at the start of the evening. Transponder units are fitted to each car and as the car passes over a wire loop the drivers lap times are counted automatically by the race computer. A printout of lap times and race results are provided at the end of each race and qualifying round. Driver’s race against the clock in the qualifying heats to achieve the best grid position for the final races. There can be anything up to four finals towards the end of the evening listed as ‘A final’ the cars achieving the most laps, to the ‘D’ Final the car achieving the least amount of laps. No matter where you end up you will be racing with other drivers of the same ability and the racing is fast and exciting. Championship points are given for qualifying and final race positions. These points accumulate over a 12 week championship period with the best 10 weeks scores counting towards the driver’s championship. Driver Championship trophies are awarded for the top three drivers in both Senior and Junior classes. Anyone over the age of 5 may race, if you can drive an RC car (however badly) you can race with us! (Please read the document drivers etiquette for expected behaviours during racing and New Driver Info for details on how a race night is run). Remember everyone comes to race to have fun. As a BRCA affiliated club you are welcome to race under WCRCCC’S insurance for three race meetings’ then you must join the BRCA for liability insurance purposes.
